May I recommend: Strained Mercy - Table of Contents, written by a fairly famous economist in the health area. It's available entirely for free online, to boot!

Not academic but I'm reading "Sick" by J Cohn and its a good intro book.

Also picked up "Incentives and Choice in Health Care" ed. by Sloan, haven't read yet.

KGkhan23 's dreams are becoming reality.
I've been told The Health of Nations is good, but I haven't gotten around to reading it yet.

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend much in the way of books aside from the Handbook, which isn't really a book anyway. Not many fields have decent textbooks at the graduate level.

To the OP: are you more interested in demand or supply? I could scrounge up my syllabi from one or both classes if you'd like lists of recommended articles to read by top guys in the field.

Well, if anyone wants a bibliography of articles in either health supply or demand from classes I took with top guys in both fields, just PM me.
