Advice for a Fourth Year Student
Hello!
I just stumbled across this forum today and could not be more relieved. After reading through a lot of the discussions, all of the plans I made this morning for my last year of school have been completely overturned and I am in need of some serious advice (particularly because the academic assistance wing of my school is weak and not at all specialized). I have just finished my third year of undergraduate studies at a Canadian university. Currently I am in a joint honours program in economics and political science, but I am planning on pursuing graduate studies in economics. After reading through a lot of these threads, specifically the ones about admissions and people's biggest regrets, I have learned I am probably on the right track to get into a good graduate school except that I am another economist who has spent the majority of my academic career avoiding math. So my question would be... to maximize my chances of getting into a graduate program, what would you recommend I do to overcome that weakness in my transcript? Should I continue on my current academic path, graduate with a degree in economics and political science and hope good grades are enough? Or would anyone recommend doing so, but staying at my school for a fifth year, immersing myself in the world of math over the next two years, and perhaps taking a graduate level course or two to strengthen my academic record? Any advice would be appreciated! |
