Unhappy Problem with the deadline for LSE funding offer

Hi, I am final-year undergrad now. I have a PhD scholarship offer from the LSE, which I am supposed to accept/decline by 15 March. Although the department has a standard deadline 15 April and has invited me to visit in late March, the financial support office is not willing to extend the deadline for me to accept/decline the scholarship. I was wondering whether it would be morally acceptable if I accept the funding now and reject the admission in April. Will I be blacklisted? There is a high probability that I will not go for LSE, but I am just not 100% sure and would like to visit them before making my final decision. What would you do in such a situation?

I would advise against accepting funding if you are very unlikely to go to the LSE. It will free up funding for students who are relying on it.

As a pure economist, you should behave like an utility maximizing individual and do not care about externalities.. As a reasonable human being, though, you might want to make your final decision by March 15th and commit to that.

    How rational/economic are you?

I would accept, and decline later if I don't feel like going. If you are not intending to teach in UK/Europe, you do not need to worry about them blacklisting you.

I wouldn't really lose any sleep over annoying some idiot in the financial aid office. So long as you're not upsetting anyone in the Economics department, it won't be held against you. And even if it does cause someone of some importance some minor inconvenience, it seems highly improbable that he/she would be serving on a hiring committee and, if if he/she were, would remember your name 5-6 years later. Most people don't maintain active enemy lists...
Offers Outstanding: Michigan State ($$$$), UC Irvine ($$)
    Offers Declined:
    U Arizona, U Colorado

Anxiously Hoping to Hear From: Carnegie Mellon, Washington U-St Louis

I would simply accept the funding, and decline later. That's it.
    Acceptances: Kellogg($$$), Wisconsin-Madison($$), Penn State($$$), Rochester($$), LSE (MSc)
    Rejections: Princeton, Yale, LSE (MRes/PhD)
