    rejection letters

I have a question. If schools are sending out impersonal rejection letters why does it sometimes take a couple days. Wouldn't a mass email be possible?

I came up with several reasons to explain this, but the recurring theme is that people are busy and it is a low priority. Rejecting people in batches isn't significantly more time intensive than rejecting them all at once.

Some schools put the applications themselves in batches, like first tier, second tier, etc. That might have something to do with it. It could also be that schools take their time putting together a wait list, and can't notify people close to the wait-list until that's done...but that's all speculation really. I'd welcome an informed answer.

Actually, what was puzzling me is when schools seem to send rejection letters out one by one, so that they are coming constantly but over a day or 2. Maybe sending them individually like this is just a way of making sure each person gets the write letter.
