    Visiting a waitlisted school

I'm planning on visiting UMN anyway despite being on their long waitlist - to show that I'm not just saying I'm still interested. Does anyone have any experience with this? Do they still try to throw you a schedule like they do admitted students or do they not care about you and thus you just have to knock on a few doors to see if any professors are available to talk with you? The UMN grad secretary is awesome at answering emails, but every time I ask the question about visiting she doesn't reply. Not sure if this is on purpose or if she just gets bogged down with other stuff at the same time and forgets to reply. Also, do any of the UMN admits know when the official visit day is? I probably won't be able to make it on that day, as I'll be traveling with family, but would be good to know. Thanks!
Accepted: Hong Kong U ($$$$)(Declined), UC-Irvine($$), Texas($$) // Out: Columbia, Berkeley, Northwestern, BC, Michigan, Wisconsin, Stanford, NYU, UW (DGS withdrew my app after knowing I have better offers. DGS knows me already so it was informal) // Waiting: WUSTL, UCSD, UVA, Minnesota (Waitlisted)

Oh, interesting. I actually can make that! I wonder if I can pay my way in and join the fun even if I'm on the waitlist.

in_limbo, do you plan on flying out to UMN? Are you on the short or long waitlist?

I'd imagine it would feel kind of weird going to the official flyout. You get to meet profs and fellow classmates and get excited and then you find out that you were rejected...
Accepted: LSE MSc Research ($), Toronto MA Doc Stream ($$), UBC MA ($)
Rejected: Yale, Berkeley, Northwestern, Columbia, Princeton, Harvard, Stanford, Penn, MIT, NYU
Waitlisted: Chicago | Waiting: Oxford MPhil, UCL MSc

I think that most on the short wait list eventually get accepted though. Actually I think Minnesota is one of the best place to be waitlisted, because they fund everyone

It would be kind of weird... but I'm feeling pretty hopeful about the situation. And although weird, I've heard that visiting does help with getting out of the waitlist... providing the faculty likes you and remember you when they make waitlist offers.

I agree- have tried calling the grad secretary to see what she thinks?
