The REAL Way to decline an admission offer.

Let's give them a taste of their own medicine. By the way if any of you do this, I'll buy you a beer.

    Dear Director of Graduate Studies,

After careful review of the offer and package that was awarded to me, I regret to inform you that I am unable to accept your offer of admission to your university. If you have accepted me to more than one of your programs, you will receive a separate communication regarding my application decision to each program. As you may well be aware, I received a significant number of acceptances to graduate programs this year; thus, I was faced with the unpleasant task of turning down a number of well-qualified programs. In such an extremely competitive environment it is not possible for me to attend every promising and well ranked department. This is in no way a reflection of your faculty, facilities or potential as a successful department. I wish you well in your endeavors and hope that in the future this will not deter you from seeking out well qualified applicants such as myself. Again, thank you for your interest and for the opportunity to allow me to review your offer.

    Sincerely,

    John Doe

Simply delicious. Are you planning to use it with any school in particular?

Where do you live? I've done worse for a beer.

And don't forget about the rejecton of unfunded offer:

"Although I considered your institution, you are too stingy and cheap for me to accept your offer"

Problem is, I would rather send this letter to the schools that rejected me than the ones who admitted me...
