How to self learn matlab?

What is the best way to to self learn matlab? I mean are there any online sources that you could use to learn this program?

I would pick a project to work on first. Find a paper you like with a publicly available dataset and try to replicate the results. You should also find alot of good videos on youtube.

It partly depends on what you want to use it for; numerical methods? statistics? experiments?

I'd say that first, find a basic tutorial or list of commands, go through that and just play around a bit with the software. Then create small tasks or projects for yourself, and learn with that goal in mind. Rinse and repeat.

Someone told me that R and Matlab have virtually the same coding, is that true? I've been using R for a while and have never even opened matlab.
