zurich_econ
With Tore Ellingsen in the commitee, the price might go to a behavioral economist...[clap]
Zomb1
Hmm, who would you guys like to see win? Not who do you think will win, but who would you like to win? I say Tirole.
jeeves0923
I say Tirole. I love Jean Tirole. Brilliant. Also a nice guy. A real class act. I'd love to see him get it, though he may have to wait several more years. I'm also a big fan of Peter Diamond. I'd love Bengt Holmstrom, but given last year's result, I find it unlikely. dinosaurus
I think macro/growth, econometrics or finance are waiting for a prize since a long time I would name Paul Romer, Robert Barro, Tom Sargent or Lars Peter Hansen. I think Shiller could also win at some point, as Tirole.
AREStudentHopeful
I'll second Paul Romer; I'm also a fan of Marty Weitzman, but that may be a little too close to Ostrom's recent medal since she did quite a bit on environmental topics. Zomb1
Anybody seen the season premier of The Simpsons? There, Bhagwati wins :)
Elliephant
I'm glad folks pointed out Paul Romer here. I thought he'd gone too "radical" to be appreciated in economic circles quite as much as when he was doing straight growth theory, but I rather like his work on institutions. Plus he is a nice guy :D And Tirole will get it sooner or later, I would think.

tobias123
does anyone else think that it is highly unlikely anyone of those in the reuters prediction will win?
AREStudentHopeful
I think Alesina has a chance, I'm not seeing the other ones though... Maybe it's just because I'm not up on my macro or financial markets papers.
zshfryoh1
Maybe Baumol will finally win it, though I doubt it since it seems like the committee has completely forgotten about him. The fact that if they give it to him for entrepreneurship he will have to share the prize with Kirzner hurts him too since I doubt the committee wants to give it to an Austrian. He is 88 and should have gotten it 30 years ago.

asquare
I don't have a good guess, but I really liked this article about revealed preferences based on the year (order) in which economists won their prizes: Nobel’s Revealed Preferences

JBDonges
does anyone else think that it is highly unlikely anyone of those in the reuters prediction will win? Since none of the laureates in medicine, physics and chemistry have been correctly predicted by Thomson Reuters and I assume causality between the predicted laureates and the factual laureates we all know that Alesina, Kiyotaki, Moore and Murphy won't make it this year. Since I have perfect foresight I know it's gonna be Barro (saying this since 5 years, if Barro never dies and I repeat this every year this statement MUST come true!!! yeah!) rob59404
Three guesses 1) Tirole and Dixit (shared) 2) Peter Diamond 3) Demsetz and Alchain (shared)
assgf3
Shiller will nab it. By the way, is it just me, or does the buzz about Thaler being a front-runner on several prediction markets seem way overrated?
behavingmyself
Shiller will nab it. By the way, is it just me, or does the buzz about Thaler being a front-runner on several prediction markets seem way overrated? In my opinion, Thaler is about as deserving of a Nobel as anyone. That there are prediction markets giving anyone over a 30% chance of winning in any given year, however, is just silly.
