The title says it all. Spaniards and non-Spaniards studying in Spain - I need your advice!

I have recently started some thread about UPF PhD Economics here on TestMagic. After gaining few valuable advices from the fellow users I have actually dig more into the subject - Spanish postgrad education, Spanish econ departments, etc etc. What I realised is that these graduate economics departments will hardly ever accept the candidates straight into their PhDs.

I mean, have a look at my profile. I have finished the bachelor in economics from the best Econ department in Ireland (top 10%). Now, I will be reading MSc Economics in University of Warwick, which is Top 5 dept in the United Kingdom. I hold Polish nationality.

Is there no way I can be admitted directly to the PhD program in Economics in one of the Spanish schools? Ok, if the only way of being accepted to such programme will be through the "Master Oficial", can they simply ask me to do additional 1 year Master course in their institution, instead of two years? Also, if any of you could name some good Economics institutions in Spain (except of the likes of UPF, UAB or Carlos III as I am aware of them) I would really appreciate it. Any useful links would be great too!

I've heard a lot of Alicante being a good program, but you'd better double-check it. It also may depend on your interests.

UPF can accept you in the second year (of their master's) if your master's program is good enough.

Perhaps that's an idea. I was thinking about it too. Do you think I will need to submit the GRE scores as well? Does UPF hold any specific requirement regarding how high these scores should be?

Thanks for your suggestion! I have never heard of CEMFI though. This is not actually a university, is it? I mean - will this doctorate be actually regarded as a PhD (either in Spain or outside)?

CEMFI's PhDs is really prestigious in Europe my friend. If you are into Econometrics, this is probably one of the best places in Europe.
