Most master's are funded yes... might not be 100% funded though, but a good chunk. Also tuition fees are much lower so take that in consideration when receiving your offers. I am pretty sure you could enter at SFU and McGill, but then again we dont have your complete profile so I can't be sure.

Queen's provides funding to all MAs, but the issue there is that this year, they only admitted 2 international students, which was a rarity.

UBC MA is fantastic, I am really happy I came here.
I couldn't have made a better choice. Really hard first semester, nonetheless. The campus is beautiful, the city rocks and people are super friendly. Also, placements have been really good over the last years: Chicago, maryland, LSE (2), Cornell, Duke, Rochester, Minnesota, UCSC and an unfunded offer to Berkeley. Not to mention that many people just choose to stay at UBC since it is just a great place to be (the geographic location can hardly be better). I know of a guy in the phD who got offers to UCLA and Michigan, but decided to stay at UBC. http://www.econ.ubc.ca/grads/ma_grads.pdf I think those are the best MA to PhD placements in Canada. As an international I got a very bad treatment from both Toronto and Queens last year. Their acceptance rate was really, really low (for funding reasons) and they didn't answer you until June. That was the case for ALL intl students. It sucked because people (from my program) who were mid ranked got into UofT and Queens with funding in march, while the top students (who were all international) got rejected. That being said, Vancouver is pretty expensive, but I got full funding. I belive 18 other tudents got it as well. But if you make it here, you'll love it (except that you'll be miserable in your first semester by the amount of work). It sucks being sorrounded by a beach nd a tremendous natural scenery, and not being able to just chil all day long. |
