How to calculate Major GPA

My school doesn't calculate major GPAs. I was just wondering people usually calculate it.

For example, if major is economics, do you:

1) Calculate GPA of ONLY economics courses?

2) Calculate GPA of economics courses AND other courses that needed to obtain a major in Economics (calculus 1, 2, 3 or whatever, for example)

I just put in my average grade (9.29/10). One of my concerns is actually the MEC (ministry) grade we have, which is out of 4 like the GPA, but getting more than a 2.0 or so means that you had an average of B+. So mine (3.23) is actually a really good grade, but I'm worried they will interpret the grade as the GPA and think it's bad. Should I mention it in the SOP? Or ask one of the recommenders to mention it?
