Programs outside of the top 60 for international and development.
I'm on a quest to try to find some decent programs that have international macroeconomics and development programs. I'm not aiming or applying to any schools would be ranked within the top 30. I'm Particularly interested in departments that would rank from 50-75.

There really are not too many development programs outside of the top 30, so as you would imagine there are even less outside the top 60.
UC Riverside: is good for applied micro development, however , it is a little heterdrox UC Santa Cruz: This might not be outside of the top 50, but they do great macro development stuff. UPF: I add them only because you could go to there for a masters (which is relatively easy to get into) and then progress to there PhD if you do well and they have a good macro development program. (you would have access to sala i martin)

International trade is a very active subject at Purdue (ranked 40-60 or so), but I believe it is not macro-based. People mostly work in microeconomics of trade or computable general equilibrium models (GTAP). I believe that many faculty at Colorado also pursue this flavor of international trade research.

Basically I'm looking for studies of trade balance, current account. UVA is probably beyond me. I have a lot of time to search. I don't think I'm applying anywhere to next year. I don't know if I should apply to better schools.
I have a bad undergrad, especially in Math. B average in Econ courses, C average in math from a top 25-35ish. Not because my ability lacking, I get nerves easy and messed up many courses (due to sleep less nights ect). I'm doing PHd courses at my hometown, and will have PHD Micro, Macro, Mathematical Stats. Right now I'm looking at 4.00 for the semester, however the school is outside the top 150 in most rankings. Next term I'll have Econometrics I, Monetary theory, and Gametheory (all PHd level). I have a 780 Q GRE, but am retaking because my verbal is 480 which doesn't meet minimums for some schools. I'm taking analysis next fall, and considering taking advanced cal and linear algebra. Because I'm sitting at home, I have a live in tutor for math (My father is a cornell phd in theoretical physics). So I'm not sure where reach schools will be for me at the end of all this. |
