A general question

Hi guys,

I'm applying for a PhD in eco, and have a rather trivial question. I've appeared for TOEFL and will appear for GRE soon. My scores from ETS might reach the university before there are any traces of my application to the univ. I mean I will submit the application before the deadlines, but official scores might reach them before they know that I'm an applicant this year. Is it a problem? How do they keep track of this stuff?

Thanks in advance.

Some schools (e.g., UC Davis) are very explicit that you must start an online application (essentially create a file for yourself) BEFORE they receive any other materials (LORs, transcripts, score reports). So just read the application instructions very carefully.

Fortunately, you don't need to complete the online application--just start it, which only takes about 5 minutes. They just want you to provide the basic info: full name, DOB, country, etc.

Ohk, thanks a lot for the info. I'll right away start an application for these universities. The universities under question are:
Princeton, Yale, Wisconsin-Madison, New York University

So if u're any other useful info regarding these in particular, it would be much appreciated.

so once you start an app, you can send transcripts and GRE? I was under the impression the schools did not even know you had started an app since they seem to be outsourced to embark and other companies. I thought schools only got your app once you submitted it.

It might just be a UC Davis thing, but I received an (automated, probably) email from the graduate secretary the first business day after my application was started.

I had imagined that a lot of people would know the answer to my question, since this is a scenario likely to appear often.

I will try contacting the universities and ask them, I'll update you guys on the same for it might be helpful to someone else. Meanwhile, if anyone knows this already, it's a welcome piece of information and do share with us.
