Actually i also planned for retaking it. But if i do so i have to take at least 1mönth prep. Then it will be at the end of november. Will not there be a risk of getting the same score? My prof told that even if now i get 790q it will hurt and who can be sure of 800q? Thats why i dropped the plan.

Do adcoms care about AWA that much? I thought an applicant like him should be able to get into U Kentucky despite his AWA score. Now, if he/she wants to go much higher...
To the OP: how is getting a 790Q going to hurt if your old score is 780Q?

Yes, grappling with the same issue myself. Scoring 780 is statistically almost the same as scoring an 800. Taking it again and not scoring 800 kind of infers that you can't score 800. It's a quirk of the GRE percentiles, not sure where I saw the analysis done though.

You might throw Wyoming and Cornell ARE on there as well. Have some good behavioral/exp people. And if you're willing to go for some higher-ranked schools, Caltech and CMU would be good options.
