Okay, apparently I shouldn't try to remember factoids like that off the top of my head.

WUB, just wondering if you know something about how the Caltech evaluate GRE scores. First, are there any cutoffs? The website describes its average as 685 for Verbal and Quant. Unlike most programs, they don't explicitly state the Q is more important than V. Given its interdisciplinary focus, do they you know if they weigh Verbal/AWA more heavily and Quant less heavily relative to other top econ programs? Or given that it's Caltech, is it just assumed that applicants will have a ~800Q (which would imply a 570V to arrive at the 685 average for both sections).

I hadn't seen that site before, interesting. Can this be true though, for 2006 entering class "Average GRE: Verbal -- 610; Quantitative -- 770; Analytical -- 5.5" ?

You didn't remember incorrectly. It's just that my first statement was based on self-reports from my classmates about whether or not they had taken analysis, but I now know that even if they haven't taken a formal course, most of them are very familiar with it.

I wouldn't be surprised if the average quant score is around 790-800 and the 570V average sounds reasonable given that a lot of our students are international. I'm not sure what role the GRE plays in admissions though or if there are any cut offs.

Well most of the stuff you do in real analysis is covered in calc 1 and calc 2 if it's taught right (though it's usually not).

I think they learned it in their international masters programs in economics. But I agree with you. It would have been great to see that material early on.
