NSF formatting questions

Do the NSF graduate fellowship essays need a title and or name?
Also, do the footnotes and references have to be 12-point TNR font also?

Anyone know?

Thanks

If it doesn't say it in the rules, you don't have to do it. If it says it in the rules, you have to do it... Off hand, I'm not sure what the rules say...

I had to go through the rules with a fine-tooth comb since my research proposal included half a page of necessary citations. As far as I can tell everything needs to be in 12 pt TNR.

yea i'm facing the same problem. Right now I'm leaving no space between my paragraphs... since they didn't say anything about that I guess it's fine. I'm still wondering whether or not to include my titles, especially since we give our proposed research a title anyway on the application....

Does anyone know the citation format of the references in the NSF essays?

If I remember correctly, there is no specific format requirement. So you should be fine as long as you use *some* recognized format and are internally consistent. If it makes you feel any better, I realized just after I submitted my own application a couple years ago that I had committed a number of formatting-related atrocities. I was sure they were going to cost me, but they apparently didn't. My takeaway was that it's hard to win one of these things because you're competing against a lot of other smart people with good ideas, not because they're googling all your references to make sure you got the page numbers right.
