Appropriate Writing Sample

I was recently invited to interview with the NY Federal Reserve for a position as an RA. They asked me to submit a writing sample, along with my resume and transcript. The problem is, as a math and computer science major, I haven't written any research papers (let alone economics research papers) in college.

Should I just tell them that I don't have any writing samples, or should I submit something else? I have a 2-page opinion letter I wrote for my school's newspaper last year (on the bank bailout plan). I also have a 4 page paper I wrote as part of my final for an international relations course. It was about free trade. But I wrote it 4 years ago, and it doesn't use any sources. It was basically just me arguing in favor of free trade.

Any ideas?

Last year I submitted an empirical term paper. When I interviewed, one of the inverviewing RAs spent a few minutes tearing it apart. I got an A on the piece and was really confused.

Was this RAship for the summer or as a full-time job? I'm very interested in a summer internship but I didn't really know where to start looking.

Full-time. I think their deadline isn't until at least January.
