Extremely low verbal score... please advice !
I just took my gre yesterday and got a very bad verbal score of 360. It was so bad that I afraid my application will not get pass the screening round. I really dont know what to do right now. For the analytical part, I think I can get a 4 or 4.5. I took my toefl a year ago and scored a 255.
Can my analytical and toefl score make up for the poor verbal score ? Can someone advice some schools to me according to my current profile ? Is there any schools that doesn't require a GRE? I know that UCL doesn't require it. I will take the gre again next week. Hopefully, I can score atleast 400 this time. Since you have done your BS in the US, your verbal scores will most likely not concern adcoms. Simply state that you focused on preparing for the GRE Q.
There are however a few schools which have a school-wide policy insisting that you score above a certain percentile on the GRE no matter what program you apply for. Those schools will cut you based on GRE so don't apply to them. GRE verbal comes into play again when determining funding, graduate, and teaching assistantships. Your low GRE may hinder you in obtaining funding. Also, why are you attempting the GRE next week? How are you going to get a better score with one weeks preparation? To be honest, your post has numerous grammatical mistakes and you should make sure your statement of purpose is free of these type of errors or it may be of serious concern to an adcom. |
