Kocherlakota at Minnesota had an interesting article about recently about the state of macro. He included a list of young professors at top 20 schools, you should look at those professors and see if any of their work sticks out to you.
MIT: Acemoglu, Angeletos, Werning Harvard: Laibson Chicago: Alvarez, Mulligan, Shimer, Uhlig Princeton: Rossi-Hansberg Stanford: Bloom, Klenow, Piazzesi, Schneider Berkeley: Gourinchas Yale: Engel, Golosov, Moscarini, Smith, Tsyvinski Northwestern: Doepke Penn: Fernandez-Villaverde, Krueger, Schorfheide Columbia: Ng, Reis, Sala-i-Martin, Schmitt-Grohe, Uribe Minnesota: Perri, Phelan, Rios-Rull NYU: Lagos, Leahy, Ludvigson, Violante Michigan: House, Killian, Stolyarov, Tesar UCLA: Burstein, Hellwig, Ohanian Wisconsin: Seshadri, Williams I know you are thinking 10-35, but it is always good to make sure that your reaches are good matches, as they are more likely to notice you, and then there will be fewer regrets should you not get in. At University of Washington, my first quarter of macro is my favorite class so far, and we have a great group, so I definitely recommend it, even if it is a safety!
