schools mainly in 10-35 range with focus in international macro
Hi everyone
i've decided to switch ID because i felt like i revealed too much about myself earlier; so here's my "first" post.. I'm interested in international macro, but would like to have the opportunity to access various fields; as oft said here, who knows where my interests will be 3yrs into the program ![]() The econ prof i consulted told me to target the 10-30 range, with some reaches/safeties and a total of max 15 schools. he gave me some names and told me to look up lists and choose more schools i feel fit me, but that is easier said than done! Could you give comments on which schools are/aren't strong in international macro? (dropping faculty names would be lovely) Also, he wasn't keen on Minesota, U Mich and Wisconsin, saying that their quality had gone down considerably. I would be curious to know why he would think so as it seems that they are talked about highly in this forum.. list as of now (first 3 : definitely reaches) Yale Upenn Columbia (Minesota) NYU (U Mich) UCLA UCSD (U Wisconsin) Brown Duke U Maryland U Rochester Boston U Pennsylvania State University Boston College University of California--Davis University of Washington |

Up or down, Minnesota could not have gone out of your target range 10-30. It's still a top 20 department overall and top 10 department for macro. If Kehoe leaves, they might take a hit though, but still be a top 20 department.

thanks guys, i will consider minnesota.
do you have more advices on the lower-ranked schools? i am not familiar with recent research so find it tough to track schools by citation etc, and i can't find many threads here with useful information on the international economics side. i am under the impression that schools with good macro departments are often also good in international economics, and am looking for schools with research centers or seminars on international economics, but i am not sure whether that's a good approach. any good tips or faculty name-droppings? ![]() |
