Would adcoms care to hear about a friend

I have a friend in the 1st year of a PhD program in Neuroscience at a particular university that I am planning to apply to for a PhD in Economics. My research interests are micro based, but experimental economics for the most part. The economics department has good experimental faculty as well. Is it worth mentioning in my statement of purpose that I have a good friend as a student in another department that I might want to do related work with?
