UIUC ACE

Hey gang,

I'm currently rocking a terminal U.S. Master's Econ program (while taking a bunch of math classes I missed as an undergrad) and I am looking at applying to a Ph D program for Fall 2011 (better to be too early than too late).

My main research interest is Health Economics.

I have been looking at Illinois-Urbana Champaign because my wife works in Champaign already and it would be great to be in the same city (yeah, I know it's not the best way to choose a school, but if you are married, you know where I'm coming from). Looking at UIUC's main econ dept. shows that they are very weak in health economics (I only saw one active professor with research interests in health). But UIUC's ACE (agriculture and consumer economics) department's consumer economics group seems to have a few people with interest in health econ. Also, their placements are decent from what I saw (i.e. I'm not planning on teaching at Harvard).

Does anyone know anything about the UIUC ACE program? I know UIUC is generally ranked in the top 40 (sometimes making the top 20), does this include the ACE or is it a bastard off shoot that no one talks about?

Looking at the ACE program, it didn't seem quite as difficult as the main econ dept. I'm curious to see if that affects its reputation.

Thanks!

P.S. If you want any profile information, I can supply it, but I was planning on waiting until next year to start putting all that up here.

Gecko 's dreams are becoming reality.
hmm, the general ranking that most people have in mind would be the UIUC econ department. as for the ACE departments, I don't quite recall it being ranked as high within the group of applied econs departments..
