Thanks tm_guru, so I guess I should better focus on programs are strong in unorthodox research or at least leftish. Fresh water programs are out of my list though. Is there any reliable ranking/list of heterodox programs in the US?

A ranking... UMass, maybe The New School and then...not sure. (Note: New School is notoriously bad at funding) Just a note, your heterodox letters may keep you out of the top 20 (or more accurately, fail to get you INTO the to 20), but if you have a great profile otherwise (research experience, enough math, good grades in math and econ, high GRE etc) you might still be competitive for a top 50 program. And if you are worried about after PhD job prospects a phd from, say, Oregon, (maybe top 50-100) might give you more jobs ops than a PhD from the New School (a reputable heterodox program). Something to consider. Last edited by claphands : 2009 November 5th at 04:06 PM. |
