Are you planning to use the MA as a stepping stone for a Ph.D. or to get into the private sector? I guess that is what will determine most of what you should write in your personal statement.

I just like the city which is so different from Califoria. Plus NYU has the best MA econ program in the US I guess~

I am also applying for the development econ program in Yale. The problem is I have to write two different PS cause the two program are so different. I am interested in both finance and development economics.

I don't think I will go for a PHD. That's why I am applying for MA programs ONLY. I want to be a consultant in private sector focusing on east aisa market. I need to learn more quantatitive research skills I guess.

back to my question, how should I write my PS? I didn't have to much quantatitive research experience. Even though I did internship in a top financial group in korea, the work itself was not that challenging.

r u also applying for econ MA?

Gecko 's dreams are becoming reality.
its not that hard to write PS for MA programs. just mention why you are good enough for them, and why they are good enough for you ~ equilibrium is reached.

walt526 is almost a TestMagic guru.
Pretty much what Gecko said.

When I wrote my statement of purpose for my MA program (granted, the admissions criteria was the ability to fog a mirror) I focused on what motivated my interest in studying Economics further as well as what my goals were and why I felt that the program could help me fulfill them. I briefly summarized my academic qualifications and highlighted performance a few courses where I excelled. I did not discuss possible research topics.

Hopefully you do so. To say it with the words of Yoram Bauman: "Otherwise you're probably stupid." Just kidding! Good luck for NYU!
