Hi, does anyone know that I have to pay application fee twice if I am also applying for another phd program at the same school, provided both programs are belonged to School of Arts and Sciences?
Thank you! PS: If I want to retake GRE in late November, but the deadline is Dec.15 or 1, will school still accept the late score? ![]() |

For your first question, it depends on the program. Do they allow you to specify 2 choices on the application forms? If so, you can send only 1 form, and thus pay only 1 time.
If you cannot, you would need to apply 2 times.. and I'm not sure whether they would allow it or no. I'd need to read the actual rules at the school.

Applying to more than one program at a school indicates you aren't sure about what you are doing, and I would advise against it.
In saying that, there are some school that allow application to more than one progrram but almost every school requires a separate application and fee, because your application to each program should be unique and focused on that program. |

Thank you guys. There is only actually one school that I want to apply for two of its programs. Both are related to each other. Hmm, but I probably should think of whether I should only apply for one of them.
Thank you. How about GRE scores? Anyone knows? |

A direct quote from the Duke application website; "We advise against applying to more than one department. Usually by the time you apply for graduate study, your areas of interest should be somewhat defined; application to more than one program may indicate a lack of focus rather than the breadth of your interests." Even though you may feel the programs both suit your needs, the adcom will prefer if you decide which one you would like prior to offering you admission to either. |

To be honest though, it is quite weird as sometimes the programs at 2 departments in one school (say, business school vs. A&S school) can be just as similar as two econ programs at 2 completely different universities.
I don't know where you got the Duke's quote, but it's right in the sense that you should not apply to the engineering and economics departments in the same year, which is what they may want to say.
