Can personally vouch that it's one of several! I think they extended a number to NSF winners as of yesterday: funding in the 4th and 5th years, with the grant covering the first three.

For anyone on the unofficial waitlist at Northwestern, they have started making offers. Funding is still very scarce though.

Well it is my only choice left in the US.I got also a couple of offers from Europe but I prefer to go in the US. I am also in WL at Minnesota but the DGS told me that he expects NOT to be admitted in the program and it is in the best of my interest to accept any other offer I may have.Any way since I do not recall what can you comment on the state of my research interest at Michigan?

So I should wait another week for an admission offer.
And I didnt hear from UPenn waitlist.
Man! Are we nearly in the same boat? If you get an offer from UPenn, what would you choose between UPenn and NYU?

Interesting, I know you have been given an offer. Had you been in touch with them? They told me they would keep in touch with me, but have said nothing. I sent an e-mail about a week ago asking about my status, but they told me it was still too early to tell.

By the way, for those who missed it, I was rejected off the UCLA waitlist.

Hey Kip, yeah I have been in touch with them. I sent an update on how I am doing in classes this semester (i.e. Thesis finished, A in measure etc) to the admission chair and he responded by telling me that admission was "reasonable at this stage". So, I would recommend communicating with him directly and stating your interest in NU.

I hope so , but the E-mail does not mean "we'll make offer to you if spaces become available", but it only says if offers are declined, then they will make offer to someone in the waitlist.
So I dont know I can get in the same boat as you.

About the choice between UPenn and NYU, I think it is very difficult to choose one from them.
My research interest is in Macro/Macroeconometrics/Monetary Economics(Theory of Banking),
and these two school is very strong in these field.
The faculty members I am interested in are:
NYU: Gertler, Sargent, Violante(Macro), Cogley(Macroeconometris), Gale(Theory of Banking)
UPenn: Krueger, Greenwood, Cole(Macro), Schorfheide, Fernandez-Villaverde(Macroeconometris), Allen(Theory of Banking)

In terms of Faculty members, I prefer UPenn to NYU (I heard from a current student in UPenn that Kruger and Schofheide is very nice guy and I am very interested in their research.),
but UPenn has higher attrition rate than NYU.
Maybe I need to start "help my decision" thread if I get two offer

Choosing between Allen and Gale would be the hardest decision I'd have to make. I'm kind of glad I didn't have to.
