Please look at my Graduate Application in Economic

    California State University, Economic Major

    GPA 3.85
GRE Quantiative 800/ Verbal 380 (It's my first time and I am unable to take a test again due to budget constraint)
Mathematic: Calculus 1,2 , Linear Algebra (all A), will take Multivariable Calculus and at least one heavy oriented math class before FaLl 2012 since I decide to get a minor.
    Good Recomendation Letters.

I know it's not outstadning compared to the rest of the pack. But please, give me some advice
What do you think about my cahnce to get into school like for Master Programs
    Baylor, Texas A&M, Houston, Texas
    University of Alabama, Auburn
    Syracuse, NYU
    Florida State University

And should I apply for PhD?

I think you have a decent shot at the top 50 PhD programs. I'm not sure if you are saying that want to try to go to those schools for masters programs (do all of them even have masters?). However, I don't think those programs will help you much, i.e. you'll still probably land in the top 50 even after the masters.

You might want to check this out if/when you apply to Auburn. It has minimums for the verbal portion of the GRE that you just barely miss. However, one thing to note, these are for the PhD in Applied Econ. The actual masters program for just Economics might have different standards.

Is there absolutely no way you can take the GRE again to raise your verbal score?

What are your long-term goals? Mathemagician assumed they were to get a PhD, but are you just interested in getting an MA and then working in the private sector. If so those schools might be acceptable (doubt you'll get into NYU, though, unless you ace something like RA in the fall), but if you want a PhD ultimately I don't think those MAs would be the best use of your time and money.

@ romero5: thanks for your information. I believe I am not interested in agri econ; and I strongly need to revise my verbal score but I don't have time and resources since I took once before and had the lower verbal score than what I am having right now. I boosted my verbal from 290 to 380 after one month of studying.

@charis: I would like to work as a business consultant who could skillfully apply available data into its best use. Cost and benefit analysis is my interest field of study.
But if I have a chance to complete phd, I would love to have a shot at it.

I think what you've got to do is to figure out what your goal is. Do you want/like research and enjoy teaching? If so, then I would suggest doing a PhD. Otherwise, a master's is enough. Are you applying this year? Cal 3 is essential. I would suggest taking stats and analysis. But if you are applying later this year for fall 2012 admission, those courses won't be on the transcript that adcoms will see anyway, so that's tough.

personal statement: I didn't know Texas has a master's program. I may be wrong (?)
