    OSU vs. NYU waitlist

What a mess. Before today, I was completely set on accepting NYU if I get off the waitlist... after all, it was a no-brainer, right? But today, I received emails from four professors at OSU saying what a great fit I am there (did anybody else get emails?) because I am interested in micro/experimental/behavioral/theory, and how closely students work with professors and how well they do. All this attention makes me feel like I could be really successful in working with professors there, and getting great guidance from an advisor.

On the NYU side, I made the (deadly) mistake of not going to their open house when I was invited due to financial circumstances and general uncertainty, but I realize now I should have done anything possible, short of selling my body, to get myself to New York. For future generations: I know it's all over this forum that you *should* go to the open house (if on waitlist) because it looks good but you should realize JUST how true this is: when I asked about the waitlist again, it was pointed out to me that it was very unfortunate that I did not attend. I think this may have seriously hurt my chances. Nevertheless, there is still a possibility for me, given that I fully commit myself to accept if given an offer.

Again, before today, I was completely prepared to do so. Now... not so sure? Maybe I am being too sensitive but I'm worried that even if I do get an offer, it will be harder to get back in good graces with NYU, which may affect my future at the school, while I am receiving a lot more enthusiasm from OSU. This has also been a pretty anxiety-filled week so I am probably over-thinking it. Logically, everyone's adults and it should be my performance my first year that determines how the professors see me, but I can't help but wonder...

    Any thoughts?

I have kind of the same research interests and four faculty contact me last week saying basically the same thing. With that said, I don't think NYU faculty are going to give you a hard time for not going to the flyout if they give you an offer, so don't let that affect your choice.

Don't worry about it. If NYU gives you an offer, go to NYU. OSU is a good fit for your interests (they're my interests too) but NYU clearly dominates.

E-mail Marge or whoever is in charge of admissions asking if there are any news on the waitlist. This expresses the interest they are expecting from your part, I believe. I did not attend NYU's open house last year (was waitlisted) and ended up getting an offer on April 14 or something.

Thanks for everyone's help. I just need to remember to breathe and relax. It'll be over soon.
