To boost my profile I am thinking of applying for a masters in ag econ at a school with a top 30 pure econ program. I want to eventually apply to pure econ phd programs however this ag econ program is appealing to me for the following reasons:

+ The location is perfect for personal reasons.
+ They offer funding (and it isn't that expensive if I don't get funding).
+ I can take econ electives in the economics department, so I could take phd micro theory.
+ Good backup plan in case the phd route doesn't work out.

Will having a masters in ag econ look bad when applying to pure econ programs? I don't want to send a signal that I am not fully committed to a pure econ phd.
