2017prospect Posted May 21, 2015 Share Posted May 21, 2015 Type of Undergrad: Top 10 Econ, Top 10 US World News ranking Undergrad GPA: 3.88 overall, 4.0 econ, 3.8 math Type of Grad: N/A Grad GPA: N/A GRE: Not yet taken Math Courses: Calculus II, III(A/B+) Linear Algebra(A) Probability Theory (A) Markov Chains (A) Intro to proof (A-) Real Analysis(A-,A-) Intro to Optimization(A) Will take grad analysis next year Econ Courses: Intermediate Micro(A) Intermediate Macro(A) Econometrics I,II(A,A) Going to take grade sequence next year Other Courses: Letters of Recommendation: 1 from professor that I am working for as an RA other two not known Research Experience: Will start working for very well-known finance professor this summer Research Interests: Not yet known but applied micro? Might also apply for finance phd SOP: N/A My main concern is relatively low math gpa? B+ in calculus, A- in analysis What do you guys think how I have done until now? chateauheart Posted May 21, 2015 Share Posted May 21, 2015 Grades/pedigree are reasonable for a top 5 applicant. Grad sequences and your research experience will both be as important as what you have on file right now. Since you're at a pretty good pace, consider taking a grad field course (preferably seminar-style) in your junior year or senior fall, where you can make a strong impression on a secondary/tertiary letter-writer, and from which you can also discover a good research topic for a thesis.
