So I am making this thread early on to gauge my profile for applying into a PhD program in two years. I am also open to getting an MA prior (even abroad) and a low ranked PhD program (I want to be an Economist in the private sector, not interested in a research professor appointment)

    How crazy am I?

Hard to tell without knowing the specifics of your current undergrad institution. I would say that if you get As in your Adv Macro/Micro/Econometrics classes and a good score in Real Analysis, then you can definitely get into some PhD program. Again, hard to tell since you are only starting your undergrad education.

I don't understand why you would want to pursue a PhD if you want to go work in industry. There are already plenty of opportunities for those with just a Masters degree.

^Agreed. OP should turn this into a thread about whether he should do a PhD.

Please include your argument for why you want to do a PhD to place in the private sector, and we can decide if your argument is just wrong (probably the case), or if you're somehow being very creative.
