    ARE Profile Evaluation

    Sponsored Ad:
Hey guys/girls, I'm one year out of my undergraduate program and currently working as an Economic Analyst. I'm planning on applying to PhD programs in Agricultural and Resource Economics, especially those with a strong development program. Programs I'm thinking about are MSU, UCONN, UIUC, Wisconsin, UC Davis, and Penn State. All things considered, MSU would be my dream program. How does my profile match up?

    Profile:

Type of Undergrad: Top 25 US University with a top 5 MS Economics program (similar to Duke)
Undergrad GPA: 3.22/4.0 (Overall), 3.83/4.0 (Econ)
    Type of Grad: N/A
    Grad GPA: N/A
GRE: Not taken yet but consistently scoring 160+ on Quant practice exams
    Math Courses: Calc I-III (B+, A, A); Linear Algebra (A); Statistics (A); Probability Theory (A)
Econ Courses: Principles of Economics (A), Intermediate Micro Theory (A), Intermediate Macro Theory (A), Basic Econometrics (A), International Economics (A), Industrial Organization (B), Financial Economics (A-), Monetary Economics (A-), Senior Thesis (A)
Other Courses: Chemistry and Biology courses
Letters of Recommendation: Thesis adviser and Econometrics professor (very strong- UIUC), Lecturer for Intermediate Macro (very strong- CUNY), and Chief Economist at work (strong- UPenn)
Research Experience: Senior Thesis on energy finance of renewable energy companies- results published on popular finance/investment website; work experience as an Economic Analyst at a Real Estate firm
    Teaching Experience: N/A
Research Interests: Agricultural Econ/Agricultural Development, Land Use in Development
    SOP: None yet

My biggest concern is my overall GPA- I started school doing premed, had some mental health issues, and did poorly during my first two years. I found Econ in my junior year, loved it, and had a 3.8 GPA for my last two years. Should I do a master's program to make up for this? I could do a MS at my undergrad university as it has an excellent PhD placement record.

    Thanks so much!
