PHD ECON - Not so relevant work experience

Hello everyone!

Prospective applicant for fall here (Economics)! I was seeking advice regarding my internship experience: I have interned for three months in investment banking (M&A) and a summer at a well-known International Organization.

Neither experience is much research-oriented and I have been (ill?)advised to hide them both from my CV - so that my path doesn't appear inconsistent/I don't give negative signals regarding my focus.

What do you think? Any advice on how to best present these experiences in CV/SOP?

Many thanks
