my1433
I am lacking some essential math courses for PhD in econ, like ODE, Real Analysis and Probability. Can anyone tell me how useful it is if I take these courses during summer? Class hour is the same (~36 hours+conference), but each course only lasts for ~1 month. Courses under consideration: LSE: Real Analysis, Advanced Econometrics UCB: Intro to Analysis (MATH 104) McGill (somehow I know somebody here): ODE and Probability If I cannot take these courses, probably I can only take Intro to Analysis at my home next semester. Do Adcom discount my grades obtained during summer school?? Are they useful for admission?? Thanks all!!
CanadianEcon
I don't see why any adcom would discount classes taken over the summer. The courses just cover the material much faster, if anything I have found summer classes more difficult due to this.

my1433
Do you mean the summer before starting a PhD? Or just summer classes in general? No. I mean I am planning to apply for econ master/PhD. Can these summer courses help me?
YaSvoboden
Of course they can help. It's the same course. My experience with summer courses is that the gen eds were really easy, but upper division courses were actually tough. Programs don't want people slipping through the "weed out" courses in the summer.
Zilch
I'm from mcgill and based on my experience so far I would say the summer courses for probability and ODE's are very doable provided you put in the work.
