econ20162
Hi, This website and its people has been so helpful during the admissions process. As I am just months before starting my PhD, is there any advice or tips that I should know in preparing for my study in the first year (passing prelims, etc)? Thanks
tm_member
There are tons of threads on this. Here's how it plays out... Advice from those not in PhD programs yet: Read first 7 chapters of MWG and do the problem sets. Get through all of baby Rudin and brush up on Matrix Algebra. Advice from senior students and faculty: Relax, read as much as you can, and think about research topics. Your call.

Hey, I take offense to that :) I'm not in a program yet and I have recommended taking it easy!

My snarky comment wouldn't have worked if I didn't exaggerate the stereotypes :-)
