Advice for Incoming First Year?

Hi,

This website and its people has been so helpful during the admissions process. As I am just months before starting my PhD, is there any advice or tips that I should know in preparing for my study in the first year (passing prelims, etc)?

Thanks

There are tons of threads on this. Here's how it plays out...

Advice from those not in PhD programs yet: Read first 7 chapters of MWG and do the problem sets. Get through all of baby Rudin and brush up on Matrix Algebra.

Advice from senior students and faculty: Relax, read as much as you can, and think about research topics.

Your call.

Hey, I take offense to that :) I'm not in a program yet and I have recommended taking it easy!
