What kind of research?

Hi, I have a question about the kind of research useful to present as part of a PhD in Economics application. Now I have the chance to write a chapter for a book and I would like to do sth that could add points to my future application. Do evaluators just take quantitative papers into consideration as an appropiate research background? Or they look mainly the overall quality of the paper? Or may be they only read the title and where it was published...
