I came from a Communist country which has sent millions of people to the United States already. So I guess the visa policy applied to my country must be among the very worst.

is your country still a communist country or are you just talking about the recent past? are you from Europe or Asia?

I was discussing the visa issue in the local Fulbright centre in Prague and from what the guy told me, now the visa situation is quite bad for Asians but they are now quite relaxed about giving visa to Eastern Europeans (which I am myself).

Is it really true that the main criterion for issuing the visa is your ability to prove that you will come back to your home country after you finish? This could be a bit of a problem for me as I left my country 6 years ago and lived in 5 different countries (including the US) within this period.
