If you're interested in finance, then business schools are better choices.

i attended finance conference for my paper in international finance, which is also a topic in economcis, what is more, my interest field is not finance(mostly in microfield), but development and growth or monetary.

then what is your opinion about my chances for top 30, or top 50

my school list is
Upenn
cornel, U texas at austin, maryland
UIUC, boston U, USC, OSU,virginia georgetown, wustl, rice

hope for direct answer for my chances, thanks

If I were you, I'd apply to some schools ranked below Rice for safety purposes (although I think Rice is comparatively safe already). Now that everyone has Real Analysis, 800Q, and GPA >3.7, it's pretty hard to get in schools like UPenn and Cornell. So the rational thing to do is to expand your list downward. Maybe I'm a little pessimistic, but last year seems to produce more nasty surprises than pleasant ones.

@user_name... It only seems like everyone has analysis if you read the boards here. When you get into a program, you'll be surprised that several people have never taken analysis. It's definitely true in my program, and I think Antichron said it's true of at least one or two in his class. Not a great dataset, but it's something.

@wendyecon
I think your chances largely depend on your LORs and whether your school has sent prior applicants to the US (which I would assume it has if it's a top university). If you've published in two journals and done some RA work, you should have better than "moderate" LORs.

The simple answer is that strong LORs from a well-known university means I think you have a good list and will likely end up in a top 30 (though an extra safety or two never hurt anyone). Depending on the quality of the publications and the LORs, you could possibly do very well.

i think you easily make into top 50 and also in top30(with some doubts). your biggest +ve point is reputed undergrad (as i infer)+decent gpa.
may be you can better know about each university of your choice at www.missiongre.com admission prediction tool

Did those people happen to go to colleges of Ivy-caliber?

RonnieT1283 's dreams are becoming reality.
I would guess so. My math econ prof, who is only a few years out of grad school, was telling a funny story the other day about a classmate of his in grad school that called sigma notation "sum over all" because that is what the professors said when they wrote it at the board. He went to University of Chicago...

Some, yes. Others, not necessarily. The trend at my school definitely seems to be that more reputable undergrad counts for more than factors that are under your control now (like math background).

Also, I think PCG also said that only about half of his/her incoming class took analysis... pretty sure it was PCG (who's at UCLA).
