Are you by any chance a valedictorian from Peking, Tsinghua, Shanghai Jiao Tong, or something like that? How about Fulbright? Basically, anything internationally known?

How highly do your recommenders think of you? The best? Top 1%/5%/10%? If you're the best of one of the best (top 1%), you should definitely aim higher.
