Getting an admit into Econ PhD during MS

Hi peopleI was recently offered a scholarship for Masters degree. My original aim was to do Econ PhD, but I guess that Masters in Statistics shall also be useful for me as it will prepare me for the Economics PhD. (although I am already taking Linear Algebra, Multivar Calc, and Calc I ryt now and will be done with them by end-January 2007). And during the Statistics degree, I can also take courses like Real Analysis. The scholarship folks have also said that if I get admission into a PhD program during my Masters degree studies, then they will approve a scholarship for that as well. Now my question is, whether it is actually possible to get admission into a PhD program while you are nearing the end of your Masters. The timeline for my studies would be something like this: The Masters degree starts in Fall 2007 and will end by Fall 2009. I will have to apply to Econ Phd programs between Sept 2007-Dec 2007? My question is whether Econ PhD programs will consider someone who is applying for admission one year before actually getting the Masters degree. Can anyone kindly clarify this?

Cph is on the way!
First of all, congrats with the scholarship!

It shouldn't be a problem that you don't finish the degree, since the minimum preparation is a four-year bachelor's degree. For people from countries with three-year bachelor's degrees like myself, the requirement is four years of studies. Any additional preparation is just an advantage, and I don't think they'll require that you finish your degree. That is, entering a master's degree after the fourth year doesn't mean that there's a new minimum of six years of studies.

Masters leading to PhD a common thing in the US?

Actually I have been offered an MS leading to PhD scholarship. My concern is whether most universities have a Masters (Statistics) leading to Phd program in the United States?
