    The complete application thread

This is the thread where you are invited to post when you have received confirmation of receipt of materials. In this way, we can help each other to find out whether we should feel nervous about the schools still missing materials . I'll go first.

    Complete:
    Yale (website)
    U Washington (e-mail from department 12/21)
    Columbia (website)
    LSE (website)

Snail mail receipt but no confirmation from school:
    Harvard
    Berkeley

    Still pending documents on website:
    Chicago
NYU (ID for tracking site in snail mail...seems inefficient )
    Princeton
    U Maryland
    U Penn
    U Toronto
    UCLA

No info on website or otherwise:
    MIT
    Northwestern

    Great idea!

    Complete:
    Yale (website)
    Columbia (website)
    Princeton (website)
    Stanford (email from department 12/20)

    Still pending documents on website:
    Chicago
NYU (hopeful ID is on its merry way)
    U Penn
    Cornell

No info on website or otherwise:
    MIT
    Northwestern
    Brown
    Harvard

For Penn, do you just check your application account (or is there a special page like Columbia)? Their email implied we could check supporting documents (other than online recommendations), but I cannot seem to find the place. Thanks.

I have just checked my application account for the references, which is the only info there is, and I got the same e-mail as you. The receipt of LORs is relevant for me, since two of my LORs are on paper, and the status says they've received one of them.

Northwestern's page looks the same, but there is no info on receipt of my paper LORs.

Thanks for your reply Cph, I guess most departments will contact us if they are missing materials.

Also, for everyone applying to Northwestern, don't forget to give them a list of your 6 most advanced economics & math courses and your photocopied GRE report. I didn't look at the department website before sending my materials so had to fax this to them later. I'm surprised that they didn't have a link to this requirement on the online application.

Thanks, P=NP. Actually, I didn't do this because I sent my official GRE scores in october, and I was under the impression that the paper copy was optional?

Hi Cph, I'm not sure it's optional, according to: http://www.econ.northwestern.edu/phd/phdsupp.html

I think maybe what happens is that they use the photocopy to review applications, then check with the graduate school in the case of admitted students. But surely they can just read it off your application, perhaps they want to see what other schools you've applied to?

In any case, if you have easy access to a fax, it can't hurt to send it to them.

    In their FAQ, it says:

    16. Should I report my GRE and TOEFL/IELTS scores to The Graduate School directly?
Educational Testing Service (ETS), who manage the GRE and TOEFL tests, and IELTS are required to report their official test scores directly to the University. We recommend that you also send a photocopy of your score report to the department, if it is available, at the time you complete your application. Please be reminded however, these scores are not considered official unless they are reported directly to the University by ETS or IELTS.
This suggests that it is optional - they really give some quite ambiguous info!

Hmm, I think I'll just see whether they ask for it - they should definitely have my official scores by now, since the other schools seem to have them!
