Thanks everyone for the congrats. It's one of my top choices (since I'm mostly interested in micro theory). As far as I understood, there was a 25k stipend for five years, and a 2.5k travel fund per year.

the big league !!!![]()

Nice work!
I got a called from Caltech notifying acceptance on monday. Sorry about not saying anything earlier, but I just stumbled upon this forum yesterday. Pretty excited about that (my interests are in micro theory, political economics and behavioral economics). They told me I will receive a confirmation email byLaurel Auchampaugh but I have not received it yet. Funding seems to be the same as Prometeus_Econ (a 25k stipend for five years, and a 2.5k travel fund per year).
Attending Caltech in Fall 2007

Do you think it makes sense to call them up to confirm my rejection, since i sincerely doubt that they are yet to send some more acceptances![]()
Yes, I'm in the same boat. I applied to CalTech, but as I haven't heard anything back yet I wonder if I can cross this one off my list.
From the grad cafe posting last yera it seems the MO for this school is to make acceptance offers early (mid february) and to send their rejection notices out a month later.
Congrats to those who got in. CalTech I barely knew thee!

Since this thread already exists I figured it would be simpler to ask here. Does anyone have an impression of campus life at Caltech?
It's a school of only 2000 students and the social science division only enrolls around 10 new phd students a year. My professor suggested I should apply because its small department matches my research interests perfectly, but I'm hesitant of attending Caltech over a slightly lower ranked university with a much larger and more diverse student body.

I don't know what you are gonna do with student body, but I can say that Caltech is just perfect especially if your research interests match.

Well, Caltech is no social mecca, that's for sure. I went to UG there. It's not that far from LA and other more "diverse" schools like USC/UCLA, and if you befriend some locals who attend Caltech, you'll invariably get to know people outside of the Caltech community.
