Big Moves in the Market

So, does any one know about the major moves for the Fall? For example, I've heard that Tsyvinski might be leaving Harvard and that Epstein is leaving Rochester. What else have you heard?

I have heard that both Debraj Ray and Lizzeri have been made offers by Yale. Dunno if they are moving though. Also, someone told me tht Dilip Abreu might be moving to NYU from Princeton.

Lizzeri told me he had Yale's offer lingering for over a year (not sure if now or in the past). The discussion was about May 1st being a weak deadline. It only matters if someone wants to start teaching in September, 2007. If they want to come for the winter or september 2007, then their offers don't get revoked like ours on April 16th. Maybe Douglas Bernheim will go to Princeton from Stanford.

Bernheim has also been made an offer by Caltech. Jonathan Katz, Caltech's DGS, told me that Bernheim's decision will drag on to the fall of next year (2007/08).

It is unfortunately true about venables moving from LSE to oxford. Such a pity. Now LSE is without a professor in international economics... The only guy who is doing true research in inernational econ is now Redding. And from what I have heard from one of the faculty member they failed to find anyone to replace Venables.

Just a Cambridge rumour, but I have not heard it from any professors.

incidentally, oxford have just received a big endowment from BP to start hiring macro/trade folk like mofos. a new center called the Center for the Analysis of Resource Rich Economies... they have hired Venables and another guy called Peter Neary (trade), but i have been told that there will be a few more to come. this is encouraging for anyone thinking about the mphil as Ox have been utterly dreadful at macro in recent years.

it just occurred to me that i talk far too much for someone that has been schooled this application cycle.
