Schools that are strong in Theory?

Can someone help me out and give me some schools that are really good in Micro Theory that are not in the top 10? Maybe schools that are in the 20-70 range? Thank you.

I've seen that. How accurate is that?

Maybe I am wrong, and if so, someone please correct me because I don't want to give the op the wrong idea, but I thought basically the top schools are the ones that are good at theory. I am under the impression that basically the top 5 or top 10 schools are the ones who are training theorists, and the other schools are training people more to do empirical work.

Epictetus is on the way!
Caltech is probably ranked between 10-20 and has a strong theory focus. Rochester is probably not top 10 overall but has trained some pretty strong theorists.

Was I wrong then? Or are these just mainly exceptions to what I said?

I could be wrong but I think it's the top 5 are good at most everything. Other programs not in the top five can be very good in one or two areas, but not across the board.

YoungEconomist -- I agree with you generally. It seems hard to get attention in theory unless you come from one of a few schools. But there are certainly schools that buck the trend. If someone is looking for a niche program that would be a good jumping off point in theory even if one doesn't get into a top 10, then there are certainly places.

But it it seems much more frequent to see that type of niche program in a field other than theory, unless someone can think of other exceptions we missed.
