no job placement outcome listed
Hello everyone,
I am a prospective economics graduate student. I have been trying to find job placement outcome of certain universities for the last few years. I am aware that sometimes they do not post them and it is only available to admitted students. AND they are not allowed to post them online. Is it possible that someone can compare these schools with a school which has its outcome available (eg. YALE)? I could not find the outcomes of Princeton, MIT, Chicago, Columbia, Northwestern and NYU. Can anyone please help? Also, if you want to let me know if the outcome is available somewhere, that would be just perfect. Thank you very much for your help. |

Yale publishes its placements because its probably better of even with schools that are ranked higher. Only MIT and Harvard consistently place better than Yale. Princeton, Berkeley and Stanford often do worse, especially recently, but sometimes better.

But I can at least give you a data point: Chicago placed a guy I know in Northwestern. |

There definitely isn't a publicly available list for MIT, but here is a list of the recent graduates and their thesis titles. A little time spent googling can probably yield their placements:
MIT Department of Economics : About The Deparment : Recent PhD Theses Good luck with applications!

What about Harvard? They have a couple of people doing education economics and some other related applied work? MIT has the poverty action lab which works on impact evaluation and experimental design.
Haven't heard much about the other universities you mentioned regarding your interests. I still think that regarding placements, once your at the top ranked schools it doesn't really matter on the margin. Maybe you should repost your profile at the new roll call post so we can organize a thread with every TMer whos applying. |

You can download a list of Michigan's placements through 2004 or so here. The list doesn't include recent years; last year was an especially good year for Michigan with Greg Lewis going to Harvard, Pat Kline to Yale, and Yuriy Gorodnochenko to Berkeley. Other placements last year included U of Toronto, William and Mary, and a post doc at Stanford.
