2 choices, 1 decision: Ind Study or Econometrics
I ran into a dillemma (sp?) which bring me TM for advice. I was supposed to do an independent study (research) with a prof. For this study, he will teach me econometrics, so we decided naming it officially as "Applied econometrics". But later I found out that any ind study is shown in the transcript only as "Ind Study", and thats it. No mention of econometrics. So I have two options... one is to go on with this, do the ind study, and the transcript will show that I did Ind Study, but no econometrics. While I can treat this as a private/individual course (one advantage of LACs) with my prof and just name it econometrics... and so the transcript will show that I did econometrics, and no independent study. I cant do neither econometrics nor the independnt study next semester because of some problems, so I have to make the choice this semester. The grad school is going to look at my transcript... so which choice sounds more reasonable??
Any advice will be much appreciated ![]() |

If you haven't taken econometrics, then I'd have it appear as such on the transcript. If you have already taken econometrics, then go with "independent study." Either way, I don't think it matters much. You can put in a sentence or two in the SOP, or if this professor is one of your recommenders he can explain in the LOR. But any school that reads your application seriously will figure out what the course actually was.
