You can't go wrong by sending a short, polite note. Just say, "Dear So-and-So, thank you for taking the time to meet with me last week. I enjoyed our conversation about financial markets in developing countries. I appreciate your taking an interest in my research. Thank you again, John."

Don't grovel, don't ask about whether or not you won the scholarship, don't go on and on. Just send a brief note. It might never get read, but then again, why not just check the box in case the interviewer is expecting something?

If you're in the Czech Republic, yeah, people will probably think there's something wrong with you. Every time I said "dekuju" I got a strange look.

Ha. One of my LoR writers is from Bulgaria. I did a bunch of traveling when I lived in Prague, and he told me never to go to Bulgaria. Apparently he had a very unpleasant experience during his two years in the Bulgarian army. Will you have to do your time in the army as well?

No army for me except for my dad is a an ex colonel.
But Bulgaria is awesome. You SHOULD deff stop by if you get to Eastern Europe. People have to adjust to differences anywhere they go. I was in Maine and I hated it for the first several months, but now I think it's great and I regret not having done more kayaking for example. And I keep in touch with friends from there and so...
I guess being in teh army can do you some harm, just as being in Iraq as a soldier could. It's not a summer camp And army in BUlgaria is deff not a five star hotel))
So you're having a Bulgarian LoR, he he that's cool. I got a Turkish and Korean in addition)
