Matlab

Hi all,

Does anyone have a suggestion for a textbook which clearly explains how to work with Matlab (preferably aimed at economists in particular)? A good syllabus and/or a collection of lecture notes would of course also do...

Thanx very much!

apropos is almost a TestMagic guru.
The tutorials that come with matlab are sufficient to get started to work on simple things.. Click on help and see what's there. There is also a good matlab tutorial on the web: Matlab Summary and Tutorial

It should take two-three hours to go over it.

I do not recomend a book like "Mastering Matlab 7" by Bruce L. Littlefield and Duane C. Hanselman which reviews some of the basics you can just play around a little and by using the Help function of matlab you can get a good feel of how things work pretty quickly.

Another good way to learn matlab is to check out the demos or even better is to go to matlabs web page and check out the recorded lectures. They are free and its basically an hour and a half class on almost any topic you want.

If you want to go directly and do economics in matlab Applied Computational Economics and Finance by Mario J. Miranda and Paul L. Fackler is a good book that starts easy and comes with tons of code to look at for yourself.

Methods for Applied Macroeconomic Research by Fabio Canova is a more advanced book but the author has lots of code on his web page which is useful for doing applied macro and DSGE stuff in matlab. You would prob be better of just downloading the code...
