Low GRE scores
I took Gre today. I have ended up with GRE Q 720. This was the lowest score I got . My GRE scores was in range of 780-790 through practice. I got 760 3 years ago without any effort to study. I am shocked right now. I can not apply to any university for Phd with these lowest scores. GIve me some advice. I feel so bad. The questions were hard and lengthier so time ended on 24th question.

what schools are on your list?? and what does the rest of your profile look like ?? Answering those two questions will help you decide if you need to retake.

I earned a masters degree on Economics in US . It is ranked as 110 or 120 in econphd. I do not remember accurately. GPA of master study is 3.78. But Gpa of my undergraduate is low. like 2.85. But my undergraduate university is not in the US and its grading policies are rigid. I have taken all required mathematical classess. I have reference letters from the professors working in the university where I got my masters degree. I am willing to make PHD. Because I am working right now and have seen that I am not happy with that kind of working. I do not really care if the university is in top 100 or top 50. I definitely prefer top 50 .However my ultimate aim is Phd in Economics. I was planning to applyto some universities especially in the first 100 universities including the low ranked ones . But right now even the low ranked ones are out of my range with 720 Quantative. I do not know what happenned today. I lost my self-confident after having seen these scores. I got the worst quantitave that I have had in real GRE. Congratulations to me:o(

This really isn't that big of a deal. Practice some more, take it again...and don't worry so much about it! A 720 isn't even that bad for top 100 schools, and if you can improve that to 760+, it won't exclude you from top 50 schools, either.
This score is by no means the end of the world. |

Finally, a person whose situation isn't "I have a perfect GPA and perfect GRE scores, should I bother to apply to an Ivy?".
Q720 is an auto-reject for anything in the top 10, unless you make up for it significantly elsewhere (published papers, recommendations that claim you are the second coming of Jesus Christ, etc). On the other hand, 700 is the mean score of people who enter PhD programs in North America. The mean of the top 30 is 760 or so. Seeing as you're looking for something in the top 50 or top 100, I say that a 720 won't kill you. You can always study hard and take it again for a better chance at admission/funding, but beware that they are adding much more difficult questions to the Quantitative section starting in November. |

They are adding some probability questions and other questions that require you to "fill in" the answers, so there's no guessing. What I am guessing is that if you're off by 0.01, you will get no points for the question.
