    CEMFI and other alternatives....

    Hello all,

As everyone, I am getting results and drawing my plans for the future. Now, I am so confused... My results are :

    Washington State University(Admit-TA$$)
North Carolina State University (Admit- ??)
CEMFI MA (admit with full scholarship 10.000 euro)
    University of Virginia ( rejected)

I am also waiting for Houston, Purdue and Boston College for Phd... In addition Carlos III, UPF, Humbolt for Master...

Now I don't want to a mid-level university hence I will probably refuse WSU and NCSU... And I will get a Master degree... My first choice was CEMFI because their program is flexible and their program is both economics and finance. And my interest is Financial Economics. Hence, it will probably good for me to get a master degree from there. In addition, CEMFI has a very good placement records.(Chicago, MIT, Upenn and others), also their professional placements are so good (IMF, World Bank, European Central Bank and others...)

So what do you suggest to me ??? Going to CEMFI and getting a master degree with a high performance and continue to study at a top school (my dreams... )Master degree is important because my undergrad GPA is low (3.33)

    All suggestions are welcomed

    Thank you all

CEMFI is your break. Especially since it's 2 years, so you'll have coursework to show.

i agree with fp3690, CEMFI seems like it would be great for you, plus its funded!?
plus you would have 2-3 semesters of grades and time to get a letter or 2, assuming you do very well.
I would also weigh this against UPF if you get in there as well...

i would choose cemfi as well... it will take you to top programs if you perform well... and, as you already wrote, it is a program with great flexibility.

i would ranked it after lse, oxford and toulouse... this is a personal view... i actually applied to these four programs and this is my order of preference... and yes, i would choose cemfi over upf and carlos iii...

i did not receive an aswer from cemfi yet... i think it is because i applied for a fundacion carolina scholarship... at least i hope this is the reason... hehe.

    congrats for your admission!

    Thank you Philipe...

It sounds different and good Because everybody that I talked to said that UPF>Carlos III> CEMFI... However, I think that CEMFI is more suitable for me with its flexible program which serves students both professional life and academic life...

There are famous faculty at CEMFI, It will be nice to study with them...

I regret not to apply to Toluouse and LSE... However funding is crucial for me and CEMFI is nice for me....

    Waiting, waiting....

Last year, the two top students from CEMFI went to Columbia and MIT. They are very strong in econometrics.

A masters at a top school (in Europe!!!) with a 10,000 euro scholarship? I'd take that in a heartbeat
